Interview with Robin Rance

Hello Everyone!

Today, I’m pleased to have author Robin Rance here. She stopped by to talk about her newest book Street Hustle along with her upcoming projects.

So please give a warm welcome to Robin.

Robin thank you so much for stopping by, if you could please introduce yourself and tell me how your writing career started?

I use the pen name, Robin Rance. I’m a retired letter carrier, and I spent my career in the post office walking the streets.

I’m the oldest child of eight, and we grew up poor. My father was always looking for work, and we spent a lot of time in hand me downs, but we were readers.

My first book came to me in a dream, that kept coming night after night. I wrote it down, and before it was finished, I had another dream. That’s how my books come to me, either in a dream, or in a song.

Congratulations on the release of Street Hustle, the third volume in the Street Smart series. Tell us more about the series and what readers can expect in the third book?

The Street Smart Series started as a tribute to my mother. She helped the homeless everywhere we went with her. She was always giving them her last dollar or buying them food. I wanted to write a book she would have wanted to read, and one that brought a little light to the homeless epidemic, and what they go through.

The first book, Introducing John Smith takes place in Seattle. We spent an entire day walking around the area by the Puget sound, and observing their misfortune. The second book, Street Surrender takes you to New York, and to the world of prostitution, and drugs. The third book, and the one coming out on the 11th, Street Hustle, takes you to Chicago. After spending time in Chicago visiting my daughter, I was surprised at how much crime happened on a daily basis. Street Hustle deals a little with sex trafficking and drugs.

There will be fourth book in the series, Street Harmony.

Street Hustle

Aside from Street Smart, you’ve also written three other series along, what are some of the benefits and challenges you found with writing a book series?

I love working on a series, but sometimes it’s hard to keep the story moving forward, and you don’t want to leave out any pertinent information from a previous book.

In my series, Never Forget, the first book started as a tribute to my grandmother. I was very close to her and I wanted to write down some of the fund things she used to say to me. However, while writing this story, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, and it was reflected in the book. The second one was hard to write, because I worked on it while my sister was going through kemo, and surgery to remove her breasts.

The third book in the series was easy to write. It’s one of my favorite books. Aries Jones is a soldier who is dealing with PTSD. I have many family members who serve this country and I spoke with them to get some insights to this awful syndrome. I plan on doing a fourth book in the series next year.

You’ve also written a few standalone novels; do you have any plans to turn them into a series or will you leave them as they are?

I would love to do another book after Graysen Cooper, but nothing yet. Listen, on the other hand,  has many more stories to tell.

I understand you’re a multi-genre author, you’ve written everything from romance to fantasy, did you it difficult to switch from one genre to another?

I’m not as good in some of the genres as I am in others, but it was fun to try. I’m working on my first Vampire book, and I have a thriller scheduled after that. I have no control when I start on a book, my muse pushes me into it.

When you write a book do you plan everything out in advance or are you a go with the flow person?

I don’t plan anything. I’m as surprised at the turn of events as they happen as the reader is. My characters speak to me, and while I’m writing they are in my dreams, which can be quite entertaining when you are working on a wester, a gang book, and a vampire one all at the same time.

Last question, can you share with us any projects you have in the works?

Blood Red, the Vampire book comes out in May, and I’ve started a thriller scheduled to be released in September. I’m also working on the second book in my Bride4s Of Benson historical Western series. It’s title, Dead In The Dust

For fun:

Favorite movie? The Last Of The Mohicans

Favorite dessert? Raspberry cheesecake or carrot cake, I can’t choose.

Best time of day to write? As soon as I wake up.

Favorite color? Blue

Current book you’re reading? I have three I’m trying to finish, Trailer Trash, by Crystal Benson, From Brat To Bronco, by Hunter Marshall, and Angels and Outlaws, by Amber Daniels

I never imagined I’d be a part of the world that Michael Williams lived in. His family was one of the wealthiest in the country, and I’d met him by chance…

My dream was always to help those who were less fortunate; especially the ones who were living with addictions. I’d lost my brother because of those things.

Then Michael Williams entered my life, unexpectedly. His piercing blue eyes almost made me forget about my dreams. Almost.

I’d even considered giving up everything I’d worked for and just focusing on us, Michael had all the money in the world, he was the sexiest man I’d ever seen, and he was into me – me!

Until fate forced my hand. I got a phone call from an old friend of my brother’s. I had to do the hardest thing that I’d ever done and break off the engagement, with the man I loved, or I would lose what I’d fought for my entire life.

I was crazy for Tempest Carson. When she was near me, all I could think about was what else I could do for her…

She was sexy, brash, and outspoken. Did I mention sexy? I asked her to marry me. My life couldn’t get better.

Then Tempest walked into my home and threw the engagement ring I’d given to her, in my face – without an explanation.

I had almost given up on us until I read a letter that she’d left for me.

This is the third book in the Street Smart series. Follow Tempest and Michael as they find themselves in the world of Sex trafficking, and drugs.

Natalia Darling was looking forward to spending her honeymoon in a modern-day castle with her new husband…

I needed to pee, so I waited for my maid of honor, to return from whatever she was doing, and help me find a larger bathroom stall. I wore my wedding dress, and my nervousness wasn’t going to let me wait until after my ceremony.

I could almost imagine my future husband standing in his finest suit waiting for me at the altar of one of the most prestigious churches in this city. And if Willow didn’t get here soon, I’d have to hunt for the restroom on my own or spend the entire ceremony dancing from side to side, in these heels.

That does it, I’ll find one myself, and Willow Jackson, you had better have a good explanation for not being here when I need you most…

And apparently she did, her hand was down the front of my husband to be’s dress pants, in the ladies room, in the back of the church, and once I stepped inside, they both tried to explain.

But how do you explain that kind of betrayal?

I’d scheduled the time off from work, I had the reservations for Castle Cozy in my purse, and I had a new outfit to wear every day of the week. Why shouldn’t I go ahead with our – correction my plans, and spend the time reflecting over what had gone wrong.

My plans were going great until I remembered that I hadn’t charged my phone earlier. So, after using the remainder of my charge on GPS, my cell died, and I got lost, in the middle of a blizzard, while searching for the castle.

Serhan Gorky…

I kept myself hidden in my small, modern-day castle in the Adirondacks. It was modern compared to my family’s castle in, Kaliningrad, and small was an understatement. However, it was mine and had been for nearly one hundred years.

I had to leave my home, and family behind. I was tired of being called a monster, and a bloodsucker. And the deciding factor had been when my wife betrayed me with my twin, and I couldn’t get past that.

The woods surrounding me were abundant with wildlife, and though I knew I’d occasionally miss the taste of human blood, I could survive on the blood the animals would provide.

I was comfortable here.

I had everything I needed.

Until her scent permeated the air.

Follow Natalia as she discovers a world full of the monsters her father read to her about at night. But these monsters didn’t want to play nicely.
